Olympia, WA is a great city about an hour south of Seattle. Being on the Puget Sound provides fantastic views, boating, kayaking, fishing, and great seafood. Olympia has over 1,200 acres of park land that provide excellent hiking opportunities, recreation, and wildlife habitats. The city offers a range of locally-owned restaurant options, from the creative Iron Rabbit, to the impeccable Gardner’s Restaurant, as well as the handful of food trucks located at 4th and Plum. 222 Market is an artisanal market located downtown with multiple restaurants and shoppes offering a unique glimpse into Olympia living. There are many cultural opportunities for adults and kids alike, from the Hands-On Children’s museum, to the multiple Art Walks and the Procession of the Species parade. Olympia is the perfect Pacific Northwest place to live.

Beer and wine are available for purchase in the studio.

SIP & PAINT AT OUR WOOD SIGN WORKSHOPS
At Board & Brush in Olympia, we marry the joy of wine and paint with the classic timelessness of wooden signs. Our instructor-led DIY wood sign workshops allow you to combine your creativity and willingness to learn new skills. We provide you with the instruction, materials and design for you to distress, sand, stain, paint, and customize your personalized piece of art!
HOW IT WORKS
1. REGISTER FOR A WORKSHOP
View our calendar above to find a date and time that works best for you and your friends and family (the more, the merrier!). You can also look for a workshop that features the type of project you’d like to create, like a PYP or specialty project. Then, you’ll browse our gallery of hundreds of designs to choose which one you’d like to create in your upcoming workshop!
2. ARRIVE EARLY!
Our workshops start on time, so you’ll want to arrive early to get settled! You can start thinking about the endless creative possibilities ahead, take photos with friends, and enjoy your favorite beverage (some studios are BYOB, while others sell alcohol, please check with your local studio about their policies).
3. GET YOUR DIY ON!
At your paint and sip workshop, you’ll turn raw wood into a finished project fit for your home! You’ll be guided by our expert instructors throughout each step in the workshop - sanding, distressing, staining, painting your stencil, and waxing! You choose all your colors in person at the workshop! Our workshops are typically about 3 hours long.
4. DISPLAY YOUR NEW DÉCOR
When you leave our workshops, you’ll leave with a wood project that you’ll be proud to display in your home! We mean it when we say that no experience is necessary - our instructors are there to help turn you into a DIY expert. Now that your beautiful farmhouse-inspired project is complete, you’ll take it home to find the perfect spot to display it!

Meet Board & Brush Olympia Owner
Mike Murphy
Dr. Mike Murphy opened the first veterinary hospital in Olympia, WA in 1992 and has grown the family of hospitals with a focus on practicing great medicine and building a fantastic culture. Prior to founding People, Pets & Vets, Dr. Murphy practiced veterinary medicine in Italy as a Captain in the US Army. Dr. Murphy has always been very involved in his community and is excited to open a business that supports creativity.
Dr. Murphy is excited to see Board & Brush flourish. He married his high school sweetheart and has 2 daughters, 4 grandkids, and 3 dogs. He enjoys skiing, boating, cycling and family time. He follows football for University of WA, Auburn and the Seahawks.
Jennifer Tomlin
Jennifer is the studio manager for the Olympia studio. She has worked at the studio since 2018 and is excited to use what she learned instructing the workshops and apply it to now managing the studio! When she is not working at the studio, Jennifer is often reading, chauffeuring her children to their many activities, or catching a play. Jennifer hopes to see you soon in the studio - being creative and making memories!
