Meet Board & Brush Apex Owner
Paula Weigel
Paula has been a crafter and maker all her life, and one of her first ‘commissioned’ craft projects was a Q-Tip monogram when she was seven years old. She gave instructional speeches in college on decoupage for her Public Speaking class and has been referred to as "the go-to gal for craft know-how." She spent fifteen years as a potter and artisan, creating bespoke creations for friends and family, and selling through Etsy and craft markets. While crafting (and her kids) kept Paula busy at nights and on weekends, her days were full with a professional career in creative and strategic services including copywriting, marketing, and brand management. She has been naming, creating strategies, and activating unique experiences for brands since 1999, but it’s been a lifelong dream and faithful prayer journey to open her own studio. Kevin grew up in Wisconsin, playing baseball and watching the Green Bay Packers. He was a finish carpenter for many years, building houses and some of the furnishings in them. He has been in a sales role in the conference industry since 2000. He jokes that since he is a midwesterner who married a southerner, he can get away with saying ‘you betcha’ and ‘y’all’ in the same sentence. Paula and Kevin were married in 2003 in the beautiful scenic mountains of North Carolina. They have two athletic kids that keep them at baseball games and gymnastics meets on most weekends. They’re also parents to the cutest Yorkie-Bichon pup you’ve ever seen. They have always wanted to own their own business and opening a Board and Brush studio was a great fit for their backgrounds, passions, and creative skill sets. They are excited about sharing their love of DIY and craft with their Apex community through fun and rewarding workshops. They hope to continue to teach their kids the values and work ethics behind owning their own business and contribute as local business owners to their town.
