Bakersfield, CA is a large city located in the southern Central Valley of California, right between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Bakersfield is surrounded by agriculture and sits on the Kern River. It has been dubbed as the "country music capital of the west coast", as it is the home of singers Merle Haggard and Buck Owens. Bakersfield is also known for its many outdoor activities! You can visit the Kern River Golf Course, peruse the many hiking trails, zoos, river rafting & tubing expeditions, nature & wildlife tours, and fish the many lakes surrounding the city.

SIP & PAINT AT OUR WOOD SIGN WORKSHOPS
At Board & Brush in Bakersfield, we marry the joy of wine and paint with the classic timelessness of wooden signs. Our instructor-led DIY wood sign workshops allow you to combine your creativity and willingness to learn new skills. We provide you with the instruction, materials and design for you to distress, sand, stain, paint, and customize your personalized piece of art!
HOW IT WORKS
1. REGISTER FOR A WORKSHOP
View our calendar above to find a date and time that works best for you and your friends and family (the more, the merrier!). You can also look for a workshop that features the type of project you’d like to create, like a PYP or specialty project. Then, you’ll browse our gallery of hundreds of designs to choose which one you’d like to create in your upcoming workshop!
2. ARRIVE EARLY!
Our workshops start on time, so you’ll want to arrive early to get settled! You can start thinking about the endless creative possibilities ahead, take photos with friends, and enjoy your favorite beverage (some studios are BYOB, while others sell alcohol, please check with your local studio about their policies).
3. GET YOUR DIY ON!
At your paint and sip workshop, you’ll turn raw wood into a finished project fit for your home! You’ll be guided by our expert instructors throughout each step in the workshop - sanding, distressing, staining, painting your stencil, and waxing! You choose all your colors in person at the workshop! Our workshops are typically about 3 hours long.
4. DISPLAY YOUR NEW DÉCOR
When you leave our workshops, you’ll leave with a wood project that you’ll be proud to display in your home! We mean it when we say that no experience is necessary - our instructors are there to help turn you into a DIY expert. Now that your beautiful farmhouse-inspired project is complete, you’ll take it home to find the perfect spot to display it!

Meet Board & Brush Bakersfield Owners
Nicole & Jorge Alvarez
Jorge and Nicole Alvarez have always been DIY'ers! Nicole comes up with unique project ideas and they execute them together (well let's be honest, mainly Jorge executes them)! Nicole loves interior design while Jorge has a passion for woodworking - building everything from fences to furniture. While Nicole was attending a Board & Brush workshop, she realized the business would be a perfect fit for them. They could mix their passions, be in the company of amazing people, and make a living doing what they love! Here they are today leading creative workshops, laughing with others, and living out their dream of owning a small business together!
Jorge was born and raised in Oxnard, CA, and Nicole in Lemoore, CA. Jorge has a degree in Management and has worked in facilities management for the past 18 years. Nicole has a degree in Paralegal Studies and runs her own legal document preparation/notary business. Married in 2003, they have two young adult sons, Damien and Vincent, and two very spoiled dogs, Blue and Gabby. The entire family loves their church, tacos, and everything outdoors, especially camping and fishing!
