The Norfolk studio is centrally located in the greater Southern Virginia area known as Hampton Roads (comprised of “Seven Cities” including Virginia Beach, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Chesapeake, Norfolk, Hampton and Newport News). Norfolk has a proud and deep history as a military town (home to the largest naval base in the world). As you would imagine, they are completely surrounded by a wide variety of waterways including the Chesapeake Bay (with abundant blue crabs) the Atlantic Ocean and miles of beaches, and a crisscross of many rivers — so water is a big theme in our culture and lives. Ghent is actually Norfolk’s first planned community dating back to 1893 and the community is a charming mix of historic homes, new development and a vibrant and growing restaurant, shopping and entertainment scene. Ghent is just outside of downtown Norfolk, which has been experiencing a great resurgence as well.

Board & Brush
SIP & PAINT AT OUR WOOD SIGN WORKSHOPS
At Board & Brush in Norfolk, we marry the joy of wine and paint with the classic timelessness of wooden signs. Our instructor-led DIY wood sign workshops allow you to combine your creativity and willingness to learn new skills. We provide you with the instruction, materials and design for you to distress, sand, stain, paint, and customize your personalized piece of art!
HOW IT WORKS
1. REGISTER FOR A WORKSHOP
View our calendar above to find a date and time that works best for you and your friends and family (the more, the merrier!). You can also look for a workshop that features the type of project you’d like to create, like a PYP or specialty project. Then, you’ll browse our gallery of hundreds of designs to choose which one you’d like to create in your upcoming workshop!
2. ARRIVE EARLY!
Our workshops start on time, so you’ll want to arrive early to get settled! You can start thinking about the endless creative possibilities ahead, take photos with friends, and enjoy your favorite beverage (some studios are BYOB, while others sell alcohol, please check with your local studio about their policies).
3. GET YOUR DIY ON!
At your paint and sip workshop, you’ll turn raw wood into a finished project fit for your home! You’ll be guided by our expert instructors throughout each step in the workshop - sanding, distressing, staining, painting your stencil, and waxing! You choose all your colors in person at the workshop! Our workshops are typically about 3 hours long.
4. DISPLAY YOUR NEW DÉCOR
When you leave our workshops, you’ll leave with a wood project that you’ll be proud to display in your home! We mean it when we say that no experience is necessary - our instructors are there to help turn you into a DIY expert. Now that your beautiful farmhouse-inspired project is complete, you’ll take it home to find the perfect spot to display it!

Meet Board & Brush Norfolk Owner
Mike Morrill
Mike is a Marine Corps Veteran who served 22 years within the Communications field. From various world-wide deployments, U.S. Embassy Security details, joint-service assignments, or aboard Marine One as a Presidential Communicator, Mike has had the privilege of serving not only in austere locations but in highly visible positions. This is where Mike found his woodworking passion, creating unique plaques and shadowboxes for departing friends and colleagues to remind them of the memories of serving together.
When the opportunity presented itself to become an owner of the Board & Brush Creative Studio in Norfolk, Mike did not hesitate to jump! Knowing what the Board & Brush brand represents coupled with what it offers to its customers felt like a perfect match to creatively engage clients with their one-of-a-kind wood working projects! The best part of the workshop for Mike? Seeing the client`s project come to life, the inspired creativity, and the enthusiasm once it is complete!
Mike enjoys kayaking, obstacle races, soccer, basketball, and simply loves spending time with his two daughters.
