Valparaiso is a city south east of Chicago located in Porter County, Indiana and is home to Valparaiso University. Downtown Valpo is filled with a number of great restaurants, Central Park Plaza and outdoor ice-skating rink, Summer Rhapsody Music Festival and Popcorn Fest. The schools and park department are outstanding and highly ranked.

SIP & PAINT AT OUR WOOD SIGN WORKSHOPS
At Board & Brush in Valparaiso, we marry the joy of wine and paint with the classic timelessness of wooden signs. Our instructor-led DIY wood sign workshops allow you to combine your creativity and willingness to learn new skills. We provide you with the instruction, materials and design for you to distress, sand, stain, paint, and customize your personalized piece of art!
HOW IT WORKS
1. REGISTER FOR A WORKSHOP
View our calendar above to find a date and time that works best for you and your friends and family (the more, the merrier!). You can also look for a workshop that features the type of project you’d like to create, like a PYP or specialty project. Then, you’ll browse our gallery of hundreds of designs to choose which one you’d like to create in your upcoming workshop!
2. ARRIVE EARLY!
Our workshops start on time, so you’ll want to arrive early to get settled! You can start thinking about the endless creative possibilities ahead, take photos with friends, and enjoy your favorite beverage (some studios are BYOB, while others sell alcohol, please check with your local studio about their policies).
3. GET YOUR DIY ON!
At your paint and sip workshop, you’ll turn raw wood into a finished project fit for your home! You’ll be guided by our expert instructors throughout each step in the workshop - sanding, distressing, staining, painting your stencil, and waxing! You choose all your colors in person at the workshop! Our workshops are typically about 3 hours long.
4. DISPLAY YOUR NEW DÉCOR
When you leave our workshops, you’ll leave with a wood project that you’ll be proud to display in your home! We mean it when we say that no experience is necessary - our instructors are there to help turn you into a DIY expert. Now that your beautiful farmhouse-inspired project is complete, you’ll take it home to find the perfect spot to display it!

Meet Board & Brush Valparaiso Owners
Alyssa & Zach Breuckman
Alyssa and Zach haven't always thought of themselves as the DIY creative craftsman types. Alyssa graduated with an associate’s degree in Dental Assisting from Indiana University Northwest and works as a dental assistant. Zach graduated from Wabash College with a bachelor’s degree in History and Psychology, and he still currently works in his family’s automotive repair business.
As a couple, Alyssa and Zach established a newfound knack for expressing their creative energies a few years back when Zach surprised Alyssa with a new Cricut machine. Since then, the two have relished in the endless stream of creative projects that they have been able to create for others. They genuinely enjoy crafting custom pieces of art that bring smiles to the faces of those that request them. When approached by past owners, Annie and Artie Equihua, Alyssa was tickled pink to find that they saw her as a perfect successor to their studios. Both Zach and Alyssa are young and have a lot of passionate energy that they cannot wait to bring to both Board & Brush Valparaiso and Board & Brush Crown Point!
Zach and Alyssa graduated from the same high school a few years apart, yet never knew one another. It wasn't until a few years later that Alyssa's oldest sister and her husband introduced the two, and the rest is history. They have two adorable little boys, Hugo and Otto. Their little family would not be complete without their fur baby Oakley. The couple thoroughly enjoys hanging out with family and friends, playing outside with their boys and dog, and indulging in creative DIY projects whenever possible!
Sarah Rowe
Sarah is the studio manager for the Valparaiso studio. Art has always been Sarah Rowe's passion in life. She went to school for Art Education at St. Joseph's College and has now been teaching Art for over 10 years. Board & Brush is the perfect blend of her interests...creating and teaching!
Sarah married her high school sweetheart, Marcus, and they have a beautiful daughter named Amy.
