Board & Brush Charlotte is located in the lively Plaza Midwood and Belmont neighborhoods within the Sugar Mill development. Nearby studio neighbors include Hair Klaudt, BATL Axe Throwing, Doors of Divergence Escape Rooms, and Game Show Challenge Charlotte, creating an area full of energy and activity. In the heart of Plaza Midwood, you'll find a variety of dining options, from Latin fare at Calle Sol and BBQ at Midwood Smokehouse to Irish-inspired dishes at Workman's Friend. For a more elevated experience, Supperland and Dilworth Tasting Room (DTR) are also nearby. Brewery fans can visit Pilot Brewing, Legion Brewing, Resident Culture Brewing Co., or Southern Strain. SIP & PAINT AT OUR WOOD SIGN WORKSHOPS
At Board & Brush in Charlotte, we marry the joy of wine and paint with the classic timelessness of wooden signs. Our instructor-led DIY wood sign workshops allow you to combine your creativity and willingness to learn new skills. We provide you with the instruction, materials and design for you to distress, sand, stain, paint, and customize your personalized piece of art!
HOW IT WORKS
1. REGISTER FOR A WORKSHOP
View our calendar above to find a date and time that works best for you and your friends and family (the more, the merrier!). You can also look for a workshop that features the type of project you’d like to create, like a PYP or specialty project. Then, you’ll browse our gallery of hundreds of designs to choose which one you’d like to create in your upcoming workshop!
2. ARRIVE EARLY!
Our workshops start on time, so you’ll want to arrive early to get settled! You can start thinking about the endless creative possibilities ahead, take photos with friends, and enjoy your favorite beverage (some studios are BYOB, while others sell alcohol, please check with your local studio about their policies).
3. GET YOUR DIY ON!
At your paint and sip workshop, you’ll turn raw wood into a finished project fit for your home! You’ll be guided by our expert instructors throughout each step in the workshop - sanding, distressing, staining, painting your stencil, and waxing! You choose all your colors in person at the workshop! Our workshops are typically about 3 hours long.
4. DISPLAY YOUR NEW DÉCOR
When you leave our workshops, you’ll leave with a wood project that you’ll be proud to display in your home! We mean it when we say that no experience is necessary - our instructors are there to help turn you into a DIY expert. Now that your beautiful farmhouse-inspired project is complete, you’ll take it home to find the perfect spot to display it!

Meet Board & Brush Charlotte Owner
Buffy Wilkey
Buffy Wilkey began her career as a Title I math teacher and later became an Elementary Math Specialist, working in Wisconsin and leading professional learning for elementary math teachers nationwide. When her husband, Ben, accepted a Corporate Treasurer role that brought their family to Charlotte, they saw it as the perfect opportunity to embrace a new chapter and tap into Buffy's creative side. Their daughter, Madison, had worked at the Board & Brush Flagship Studio in Wisconsin, inspiring the family to bring the concept to Charlotte. Buffy's love for leading group workshops, combined with the creative spirit of Board & Brush, made this a natural fit.
Married in July 2000, the Wilkeys have two children. Madison shares Buffy's creative energy and is excited to help bring that passion to the Charlotte studio, while their son, Jack, is pursuing a career in finance. The family also includes two labs, Percy and Westley, who are enjoying life in Charlotte and frequent trips to the Whitewater Center.

Board & Brush Charlotte is located on the west side of Sugar Mill. Enter using the double doors to the left of Royal Tot and head straight down the hall. There is parking in the lot in front of the building as well as on the street.
