Erie, PA is the fourth largest city in Pennsylvania. It sits beautifully on Lake Erie in the Northwest corner of Pennsylvania. Erie is ranked in the top ten for sunsets in the world! Presque Isle State Park is where the famous Waldameer Park and Water World are located. The 3,200-acre peninsula celebrates everything outdoors, with 7 miles of surf beaches, eleven miles of hiking trails, 13.5 miles of biking, plus birding, fishing, boating, kayaking and more! There are major hotels within ten minutes of Board & Brush along the Bay of Lake Erie including the Sheraton Erie Bayfront and Courtyard by Marriott Erie Bayfront. The north east side of the city has the beautiful Lake Erie Wine Country, with a long wine trail. Erie is also known for many local breweries, the Lake Erie Ale Trail, Splash Lagoon indoor water park, skiing at Peak n Peak Resort and finally Presque Isle Downs & Casino. The Erie Maritime Museum traces the history of Lake Erie and is the home port of the US Brig Niagara, an updated 19th-century ship. Erie is known for its “Snowbelt”, famous for the winter wonderland created by the lake effect snow.

SIP & PAINT AT OUR WOOD SIGN WORKSHOPS
At Board & Brush in Erie, we marry the joy of wine and paint with the classic timelessness of wooden signs. Our instructor-led DIY wood sign workshops allow you to combine your creativity and willingness to learn new skills. We provide you with the instruction, materials and design for you to distress, sand, stain, paint, and customize your personalized piece of art!
HOW IT WORKS
1. REGISTER FOR A WORKSHOP
View our calendar above to find a date and time that works best for you and your friends and family (the more, the merrier!). You can also look for a workshop that features the type of project you’d like to create, like a PYP or specialty project. Then, you’ll browse our gallery of hundreds of designs to choose which one you’d like to create in your upcoming workshop!
2. ARRIVE EARLY!
Our workshops start on time, so you’ll want to arrive early to get settled! You can start thinking about the endless creative possibilities ahead, take photos with friends, and enjoy your favorite beverage (some studios are BYOB, while others sell alcohol, please check with your local studio about their policies).
3. GET YOUR DIY ON!
At your paint and sip workshop, you’ll turn raw wood into a finished project fit for your home! You’ll be guided by our expert instructors throughout each step in the workshop - sanding, distressing, staining, painting your stencil, and waxing! You choose all your colors in person at the workshop! Our workshops are typically about 3 hours long.
4. DISPLAY YOUR NEW DÉCOR
When you leave our workshops, you’ll leave with a wood project that you’ll be proud to display in your home! We mean it when we say that no experience is necessary - our instructors are there to help turn you into a DIY expert. Now that your beautiful farmhouse-inspired project is complete, you’ll take it home to find the perfect spot to display it!

Meet Board & Brush Erie Owner
Alyssa Koons
Alyssa has always had a love for all things art. She enjoys sketching, painting, and creating with wood and textiles. She has that, “I can make that” philosophy when something catches her eye! Although her career has led her to healthcare as a nurse practitioner, art has continued to be her passion. She completed her undergrad nursing degree and went on to complete her doctorate nurse practitioner degree in 2015. She currently works at UPMC Hamot as a trauma nurse practitioner which she enjoys very much. She and her husband, Sam, met in 2013 and married in 2015. Sam is no stranger to creating himself, having 20 years of experience in carpentry and beginning Koons General Contracting in 2018. Alyssa and Sam have been blessed with four energetic, fun-loving, creative girls of their own. As a family, they enjoy getting outside to play or swim, and of course, always making time to create!
Owning another business was never really the plan, but Alyssa had attended many Board & Brush workshops and had thought, “What a fun job, teaching and creating at the same time!” When the opportunity presented itself, she knew she was all in! With Alyssa’s eye for art and Sam’s woodworking skills, the two of them look forward to continuing the Board & Brush Erie Studio as a creative outlet where people can let out their inner artists and enjoy the company of good friends!
